Anger

-Prabhu Shankar

Narayan's stature was short and he was full of anger.
Often it happened in the bank that not a little bit of mistake was tolerated by him. His voice was stentorian; he‘d always talk in a stern voice. Age has exceeded seventy. What has happened to him today?
He was waiting for a long time. The number on the glow-board appeared many times and then disappeared.
The cashier lost his patience. He cried the name, ‘Narayan’ in a loud voice.
He knew that the cashier had pressed the wrong number. He approached the counter. The cashier immediately realized his own mistake. He apologized. Narayan in his anger took the cashier to task. When his colleagues came in support of the cashier, he took them also to task. All the employees in the bank were angered. They went to the Manager and complained.
The Manager said in a composed voice, ‘He is always right! He gets angry when some mistake is committed. He is our customer for the past forty years. He could close his account with us any time he likes and go to some other bank, but he did not do that. There is love for us in his heart. His rebuking is only to rectify us. Now go back and do your work.’
