Old Number

Dhanasekaran was using the same mobile number for the past ten years.

New schemes were coming every week. Less charge and more benefits were announced by the service provider companies in every newspaper. So many offers were there! But Dhanasekar had no interest in them.

His colleagues used to make fun of him. He’d not mind them. With a smile he would ignore them.

‘Why you don’t change the number? Why there is so much of attachment to it?’ his friend, Chandiran asked him.

With this question, Dhanasekaran’s eyes became wet!

‘When my son was in seventh standard, he chose this number for me. He knew this number by heart. Even in the middle of his sleep, he’d tell this number. One day he went away from home and didn’t come! I have a hunch one day he’ll call me on this number!’ with these words his eyes overflowed!
