Stepmother

To wonder at the behaviour of his second wife, Vatsala, had become a habit with Muthazhagan.
At the time of the delivery of the daughter, his first wife had died. Considering his young age and the future of his baby daughter, he had married Vatsala. She also considered the baby, Nalini as her own daughter. The husband wished that this love should continue! After the birth of the second daughter, Kamala there was no change in Vatsala. 
Whether to pump water, wash the clothes, or for buying something from the shop, she'd always call for Kamala. 
When Nalini comes to work, she would prevent her. 'No dear. You go and take rest.' Nalini would spend much of her time watching TV, and she was proud that she had got a caring mother.
Years passed. After marriage, Nalini had gone to her in-law's house.
'Sister had gone to her in-law's house with all comfort. What'd happen to me?' When these words fell on the ears of her mother, she said, 'O you half-witted! You alone would make a name in the in-law's house. Now Nalini will have a tough time there. All will taunt her that she is of no good. Now her ordeal will begin.' Ironical smile spread on the lips of Vatsala.
