Life
-S. Raman
‘Now you can pay electric bills, telephone bills, etc. from home itself. No need to stand in queues for hours. It is now called ‘online service’. I got the pin code of your name from the bank. Keep it safe with you.’ Kannan was saying it to his father in his proud voice.
But Kanna’s father was busy shoving the bills in his yellow bag. Without paying any attention to what his son was saying, he walked to the entrance to go to the EB office to pay the bill. Kannan was upset by this reaction! He tried to stop his father, ‘Why don’t you take advantage of this service? Do you think only by paying the bill in person, electricity will come to our home?’
‘Electricity will not come but life will......By going out I can see life......see many faces......meet many people......could befriend some.....this is the cure for an aged heart like mine. Your computer could not do these things, could it, my dear son?’
The dear son himself took his dear father to the door, and said ‘Bye.’ to him.
