Mother Tongue
-Selva Raja

‘To receive education in my mother-tongue is my birth right. When there is Tami, why should there be another language? If my mother-tongue is jolted even a bit, I’ll not keep quiet even if my mother says.’ The speech of the famous Tamil poet in the World Tamil Conference was telecast for the second time on DD.

And our poet reclining on the couch was enjoying his own histrionics on the screen!

‘Mummy! Come here and see the speech of daddy!’ his daughter, Malthi was all praise for her father.

‘It is only for his love for Tamil, he was invited to the Tamil Conference.’ Wife also shared her daughter’s sentiments.

At that time, telephone rang. The poet took the phone.

‘Sir! We’re speaking from Fathima Convent. Correspondent has refused to give admission to your grand-daughter into LKG without donation.’

‘Donation? I’ll give what they demand. But she must get the seat.’
